How Do We Treat Pain

  • Evaluation and exam
    • You will receive a comprehensive evaluation and physical exam.
  • Tests
    • Diagnostic and imaging results, such as x-rays, MRI or CT scan, will be carefully reviewed and explained to you, and new imaging ordered, if needed.
  • Treatment plan
    • Together we develop an individualized, multimodal treatment plan that may include interventional procedures, medications, recommendations for various pain relief modalities, and referral to ancillary services like physical therapy, aqua therapy, acupuncture, or chiropractor.
We continuously re-evaluate you and the treatment plan and make adjustments based on your individual response.
  • Medications
    • We evaluate your symptoms and determine if and which medications are best indicated to treat your pain symptoms. We adhere to safe prescribing practices. We have a written pain agreement plan to facilitate communication between you and the provider about safe and appropriate use of pain medication.
  • Referrals
    • We work in partnership with your primary care provider and other specialists, and make referrals to optimize your care.
  • Interventional procedures
    • Interventional procedures are done using fluoroscopic guidance (intermittent x-ray from a variety of angles) to safely deliver medication or electrical energy and heat to very precise anatomic locations in order to treat the cause of pain and interrupt the flow of pain signals. In many cases, surgery may be avoided through the use of less invasive interventional procedures. Interventional procedures may also be used for those who have had surgery and still experience pain.
